Peninsula School District Achieves Nearly $300K Savings on New Bus Radio Infrastructure through Innovative Partnership

In a remarkable display of collaborative problem-solving, the Peninsula School District's partnership with the Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One (GHFMO) has led to a cost-effective and future-proof connectivity solution for our bus fleet.

Originally, PSD was quoted $450,000 to upgrade our bus radio infrastructure to the 700 MHz network. However, through the district's partnership with GHFMO, we were able to leverage the organization's expertise and existing infrastructure, ultimately implementing a solution for just under $200,000.

Beyond the substantial cost savings, this innovative partnership delivers enhanced safety and efficiency for PSD's bus fleet. By utilizing AT&T's HPUE (High-Power User Equipment) devices, the district's buses now have reliable voice connectivity almost everywhere they travel, a critical improvement over the previous challenges. This is particularly important for a geographically large district like PSD, as it ensures bus drivers can maintain constant communication and respond quickly to any emergencies or unforeseen events.

"This innovative partnership not only delivers substantial cost savings but also ensures our bus fleet remains connected and responsive, enhancing the overall safety and efficiency of student transportation," said Superintendent Krestin Bahr.

The success of this collaboration showcases the power of cross-organizational partnerships and the transformative impact that technology can have on essential public services. PSD is excited to continue this exciting journey and explore additional opportunities to leverage innovative solutions that benefit the Gig Harbor community.
