November is Native American Heritage Month

This month, we take time to honor and celebrate the rich cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native American communities. Recognizing Native American Heritage Month helps us remember the resilience, strength, and legacy of Native peoples who have shaped and continue to shape our communities today.

At the PSD, we’re proud to recognize and celebrate the history of the Puyallup Tribe, on whose traditional lands we work and learn. We are also dedicated to supporting our Native students through the Native American Education Program (NAEP) in partnership with the Puget Sound Educational Service District. For over 25 years, this partnership has provided educational and cultural support to students with Native heritage in our district and throughout the region.

Our program serves approximately 125 students with Native heritage, fostering connection, cultural pride, and academic success. Through small group settings, students engage with Native culture and connect with peers. The program also assists students with college and career planning, scholarship opportunities, and financial support for school-related expenses. Learn more about the program at our website - https://www.psd401.net/nativeamericaneducation.

This Native American Heritage Month, we encourage our community to learn more, celebrate, and support our Native American students and families. Together, let’s honor the past and look toward a future of respect, recognition, and empowerment.
